At West Oaks School, we actively promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. These values are embedded within our daily practice and form an important part of pupils’ personal development.
Democracy
Pupils are supported to express their views and contribute to school life. Opportunities such as School Council and class discussions ensure that pupil voice is heard and valued across the school community.
The Rule of Law
Clear expectations and consistent approaches help pupils to understand the importance of rules and boundaries. Through daily routines, teaching and wider experiences, pupils learn how rules keep people safe and support positive communities.
Individual Liberty
Pupils are encouraged to make choices and develop independence within a safe and supportive environment. Teaching supports pupils to understand their rights and how to make safe and informed decisions.
Mutual Respect
Respect is central to all relationships at West Oaks. Pupils are supported to understand the impact of their actions and to value the contributions of others within a positive and inclusive community.
Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
We celebrate diversity and provide opportunities for pupils to learn about different cultures, faiths and communities. This is supported through the curriculum and wider experiences, helping pupils to develop understanding and respect for others.
We actively promote these values across the school and challenge views or behaviours that do not reflect our inclusive ethos.
